The Inter Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT) initiated discussions with United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in December 2017 regarding INIT’s ongoing study on Development of Gap Analysis and Roadmap to Meet the Technology Needs of People with a Disability and Special Need in OIC Member States. The UNESCP appreciated the INIT’s initiative and invited to join hand with UNESCP in organizing an expert meeting on the subject issue.
In cognizance to the invitation of UNESCAP, INIT has successfully organized an Expert Meeting on ‘Disability, Inclusive Technology and Innovation: From Policies to Practice’. The meeting provided a distinguished international platform to highlight the work done by INIT in this area and was attended by more than 30 governmental and non-governmental organizations from Brunei, Hongkong, Iran, Korea, Malaysia, Macau, Thailand, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines and Uzbekistan.
Prior to this meeting, the INIT delegation comprising of Engr. Tahir Naeem, Executive Director INIT, and Dr. Akber Abid Gardezi, Manager INIT also participated in 2 day meeting organized by UNESCAP on ‘Technologies and Innovation for People with Disability’ on August 28 – 29, 2018. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for the INIT delegates to showcase INIT’s activities being carried out under its different programs, and benefit from and contribute to the discussions on latest developments w.r.t. policy matters in the meeting focus areas.
